Polka Polka

Meet my new best friend. Her name is Polka Polka. She was born in 1982 and has always been known as a beauty. Although, she was starting to doubt herself after her first BFF ditched her at the thrift store. Not to fret -- she's regained all her confidence and more, now that she kicks it with yours truly.

Polks (that's what I call her for short) told me I need to lose a few pounds before we go out in public again. Yes, she is blunt, but isn't that what real friends are for?

I know that you are probably thinking, "That dress isn't a real person, therefore it can't be a real friend. Abbey has lost her mind. It must be that she doesn't get out much anymore with a baby and all. Poor, crazy girl."

And you're absolutely right. That's what happens when your husband goes out of town for work for a week. Matt, if you are reading this, I think you should come home today. We miss you. Kthanksbye.

Oh yeah, Happy Leap Day! I hope you are wearing blue and yellow to ensure that Leap Day William brings you some special treats.

An Outing

 

I am forgoing A Random Thing Or Two-sday this week. Sorry, you'll have to wait until next week to hear random facts you never knew you wanted to know. I'd rather tell you about our fun little weekend adventure.

Luke enjoyed his first outing to the golf course this last weekend. Six weeks old and already hitting the green. Can't you see that he's a little tuckered out? We have a future golf superstar in the making, my loves. Even though we only hit up the driving range. I looked so out of place it was ridiculous.

The driving range is a funny place. All of these men go decked out in their polo shirts and shiny golf gear, just to demonstrate how terrible they are at hitting a golf ball. The place we went to isn't super nice either. They let me in. Nuff said.

After that, we munched on our routine weekend cupcake. This time we tested out Dolcissimo. It's absolutely adorable inside. Let's just say it would be Pinaklicious' dream come true. Everything is pink. Even the receipts are pink!

I ordered the Dreamy Strawberry and a lemon macaron. Mmm, mmm, scrumptious. Matt got the Red Velvet. I have to admit, they aren't quite as yummy as Suite Cupcakery 106, but they are still good. And the merchandising in the store makes up for it. So cute.


When we were deciding what to have for lunch/dinner, we were at a roadblock because it was 3 pm. That is such an awkward time to eat a meal, because you are starving from missing lunch and you might as well eat something hearty like a dinner entree, but it still seems too early. Anyone else feel this way about meal schedules? I like to call this limbo meal time linner or dunch. I can't ever decide which word I like better. Matt then came out of the blue with this...

"We should have deaksfast"...

Wtforks? Breakfast for dinner? No thanks, honey. Not today.


He then said the most genius term I've never heard.


"Dunchfast. It means a person who eats only one meal a day."


Hahahaha. I was laughing so hard. I am sure it's on Urban Dictionary somewhere, but neither of us had ever heard of it, making it all the more special since we felt extremely creative for thinking of it.

That conversation pretty much sums up our relationship, which is pure awesomeness.

Hello again, Along Abbey Road readers!  If we haven't already met, I'm Kristen from The Mrs. and The Momma, where you'll find chronicles of my fashion choices, my motherhood experiences, and all life's inspirations....which I've usually found come in the form of a child.  Come by and say hello!  I love making new friends!

Today I'm bringing a breath of spring to you...through color that is.  Here in Texas, spring arrived a good month ago, so feel free to either live vicariously through me (if you are totally done with the cold this year) OR know that I am extremely envious of anyone who is currently enjoying 50 degree or below weather (it's not fair).

I tend to naturally gravitate towards black, so I'm super stoked about all the brights and fun pastels this season.  Not only does it give me an excuse to update my wardrobe a bit, but allows room for some color risk taking.  Now I just need to get me some bright yellow and mint green. Can I get an amen!?!

My Favorite Outfit In The Entire World

Tee: LOFT (similar). Skirt: LOFT (similar). Fedora: Nordstrom (similar). Flats: F21. Bangles: F21.

This is possibly my most favorite thing I've ever worn. It takes some serious will-power not to wear it every single day. There is something about mustard yellow that has me addicted. Like on a Coca-Cola level of addiction. If the Coca-Cola logo were mustard yellow, I'd have to go to rehab for sure. I would drink it in bottles by the case and then use them as decorations for every last thing in my house. How cool would a mustard yellow Coca-Cola bottle coffee table be? Out of this world cool.

Perhaps I'm going a little overboard here. Don't know when this turned into a platform for how much I love Coke. I have other important matters to address.

Like The Wonder Years.

Matt and I are almost finished with all of the seasons on Netflix. My heart is breaking. I don't want it to end. Watching it brings out my love for retro things, and watching the vintage film title credits makes me pine for an iPhone with Instagram more than Chuck wants Blair. That's a serious amount of desire right there, for all of you Anti-Gossip Girlites. Not to be confused with an Anti-Dentite (Seinfeld, anyone?)

Wow, I keep getting way off track here. I am just aimlessly typing every thought that is flowing into my mind right now. It's kind of fun to see where this is going. This post is purely for the pleasure of displaying my favorite outfit in the entire world, so I suppose it doesn't really matter that I'm writing a bunch of nonsensical crap. Although, come to think of it, I write about nonsensical crap 50% of the time anyway. It is entirely liberating though. You should try it sometime.

And yes, I am wearing false lashes and loving every second of the glamazon-ness.

Vintage And Baby Feet

I scored the most amazing vintage finds of my life this last week. Two fabulous, vintage polka dot dresses, a floral shift, and two blazers. Did you see one of them is Tahari? I just about passed out at the thrift store. After I quietly squealed and the store employee gave me the side stink eye.

And how can you not love those sweet baby feet? He crosses them when he sleeps! Ridiculously cute.

DIY Feather Lampshade

 Happy Friday, all ya'll. Today I am giving you something to do this weekend. Get your Michael's coupon ready, because you're going to need to go grab supplies for this awesome DIY project that Brandy is sharing! I love a good project for a good deal, and this one's where it's at!

I have a very simple DIY project I'd like to share with you.

My daughter's room is done in black and white damask print and zebra print with hot pink accents.

Her walls are painted a pale turquoise.  The lighting in her room isn't the best, so we were looking for a

trendy and chic lamp.  All of the ones we could find were pretty pricey; we're talking around $30.00 for just the shade. I searched all over the internet for a less expensive one with no luck.

So, one day I was at the dollar store and found this zebra lampshade. I had a lamp that I had bought at a yardsale for $2.00 that would go great with it.  The shade was $5.00. I went to our Michaels store and bought this strand of black maribour feathers for $2.00. 

All I had to do was hot glue the feathers around the top and bottom edge of the shade

 and cut the excess feathers off.  Super easy.  It only took about 10 minutes. And voilà -- just what we had in mind.

The total project was $9.00 for the lamp and the shade.

So cute and it went perfectly with her room.

Ruby Dooby Doo

Anchor sweater: Old Navy.

 

Ruby's is the best little burger joint California has to offer. It's the bomb. The retro diner set up makes me want to wear poodle skirts, the milk shakes are heaven sent, and the Coca Cola tastes better than anywhere else. Our waiter even had a mustache... 5,000,000 points for Ruby's. You should make it a priority to go if you are ever in California. If you live in California, you should probably have it for dinner tonight. Grab a 900-calorie Oreo shake for me, k? Thanks.

Spending time at Ruby's with my broskie, Brady, and his wifey, Brittany, was the cherry on top to a great night (I am not going to confirm or deny that Brady and I are twins). Matt and I enjoyed good chats and good eats with them. Luke reminded them that they may or may not want to have children. He was all snuggly one moment and screaming his head off the next. Either way, we can't wait for Luke to get a cousin to bum around with!

In other news...

This last Sunday, my friend invited me to speak to her Sunday school class about preparation for having a baby. Let's note that the class consisted of 7 year-olds. I told them how it takes physical, material, and spiritual preparation to be a parent. Then we had a Q&A session. Here's the first question the little people were bursting to know...

7 year-old: "Is that really your baby?"


Me: "Yes. Yes, it is. Why? Do I not look old enough to have a baby?"


7 year-old: "Oh. I don't know. I guess."


Strangely, it was the most awkward, yet nicest thing anyone has said to me. And the fact that it came from a 7 year-old with no filter... well, it is hands down the best compliment I've ever received.

Thank you, Miss Sassy Pants for reinforcing the fact that I am mistaken for a teen mom every day. I don't mind that I look like your big sister. At this rate, I'll look 21 when I'm 30. No qualms here.
